Composed of band members, Peter Jones aged 24 and Emma Paine aged 23 from Nottingham. Both are full time singers having been friends since the age of 16. They have both been singing together for the past seven years. Peter has been blind since early childhood. Peter spoke of Simon Cowell's comment that Emma was the weakest link: "To hear someone say half of your band is not good is tough but we've been singing together for seven years and if I didn't think Emma was great we wouldn't have lasted this long. In my book, Emma has nothing to prove." Emma spoke of their winning chances: "We are equal to anyone else in this competition. We have a decent chance because we're a duo and you don't get many of those. We love The Carpenters and if we could be even half as successful as them, it would be a dream for us."
Q & As
Occupation?
Emma - We both sing in pubs and clubs, we do 3 gigs a week on average and work on improving the act, doing backing tracks and writing.
Any formal training?
Emma - Yes, I’ve had some classical training when I was about 15-18. Recently we’ve had half a dozen lessons in more pop styles.
Peter - I had a couple of lessons 4 years back but we’re both having lessons now.
What part of the X Factor do you have?
Peter - We both think we have great voices but the main thing is getting our feelings and emotions over. You can do all the really clever stuff but we just have real feeling and that’s what comes across.
Emma - Also the fact that we’re a duo is quite unusual, with the exception of The Carpenters and a few others there hasn’t really been a great harmony duo, not recently.
Why will people vote for you?
Emma - I hope people will be attracted to our personalities and the fact that we’re best buddies. I hope our natural personalities will come over on the show. We get on so well, we have a right laugh together.
Best thing about your judge?
Emma - Louis has got the best experience behind him.
Peter - He’s had a lot of long term success with groups, he’s brought a lot of acts to the front and he seems prepared to listen to what we have to say. If he disagrees with you he doesn’t do it in a bad way. He’s diplomatic but he says what he means and he’s not unpleasant about it.
Emma - And behind the scenes we’ve had such a good laugh with him he’s really down to earth he’s a great chap we really like him.
Why are you glad you didn’t get the other two?
Emma - Whoever we had we’d have made the most of but with Simon we don’t think he’s had that credible a back list of stars.
Peter - He’s had lots of number one with various people but none of them have lasted more than a year, they won’t be the musical greats of years to come.
Emma - And also he was pretty nasty in the first audition. I don’t think he really liked us.
Peter - I really like Sharon, she says what she thinks.
Emma - She gave the most positive comments and picked up on our chemistry.
What are your personal goals?
Peter - As it is we’re in Working Men’s Clubs, they’ve been good for us but we’ve been doing it for 5 years and we’d like to move up the ladder a little bit. I’d like to write more and get those songs known.
Emma - Yeah me too. That goes for both of us. We write together.
Peter - I’m not sure that the screaming hysteria that goes with fame appeals but we’d just like recognition for what we do.
Last CD
Peter - Keane and Scissor Sisters, I’m quite impressed with both of them.
Emma - I can’t remember, can you remember Pete? I bought the Celine Dion Live in Las Vegas CD but I was slightly disappointed. She’s one of my idols.
What music would we be surprised you own?
Emma - I’ve got loads of Jason Donavan stuff.
Peter - My collection is quite varied I’ve got everything from the Beatles to System of a Down.
Emma - You’ve got some sugar pop stuff.
Peter - Oh yeah, I’ve got Steps and 3 Britney albums and I just ordered Rolf Harris off the internet!
Which artist do you most resemble or identify with?
Peter - I aspire to George Michael, Phil Collins, Paul McCartney, and Paul Carrick, basic all round singer songwriters.
Emma - People say he sounds like Stevie Wonder, and they’ve also said my voice is similar to Diana Ross particularly in her early days. Also that I look and sound like Leanne Rimes.
What do you sing in the shower?
Peter - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Emma - I do my musical warm ups.
What’s the one thing that would surprise the public about you?
Peter - Emma nags a lot.
Emma - Peter eats too many pizzas and is untidy.
What would you choose as your Diva request?
Peter - Minstrels and Guinness
Emma - Loads of water
