Q&As
Why did you want to take part in the series?
That’s a question I’m still pondering myself and I really was in two minds about it! Peer pressure I think is the answer and the fact that I’m such a big fan of the show itself already. I asked myself, would I be gutted if I watched the show after turning down the opportunity to appear in it, and when the answer came back ‘yes’, I knew I had to bite the bullet and give it a go.
How has the vocal training been going?
The vocal training is exhausting and confusing! I thought it was hard enough to sing anyway without having to think about all the technical stuff that goes with it.
Which of the judges are you most nervous about facing?
Undoubtedly Simon, not because of his cutting remarks, more because he’s so straight and says it how it is.
Which judge would you like to be your mentor?
Because of what I’ve just said, I think Simon, just so he might not be quite so hard on me!
Are you terrified about singing live?
I am absolutely terrified about singing live on TV, it makes me feel sick every time I think about it.
How will you react to the judges if they give you negative comments?
As much as I’d like to say that I won’t let it affect me, it so will. I have no confidence when it comes to singing anyway, so it’ll probably just make me want to crawl into my shell and not come out again.
What past singing experience have you got?
When I was 9 and 10, I did appear in a couple of west end musicals and I have made a guest appearance in Stars in Their Eyes as Gwen Stefani. Once a year I normally do panto which involves some singing, but never live with such a huge audience.
Who would be most surprised if you were to win the competition?
Me – it’s highly unlikely!
What do your friends/family/colleagues think of you taking part?
All my friends and family are so excited but that’s just because they’re looking forward to coming to the live shows and having a great time. They’re not thinking about the fact that I’ve actually got to get up there and do it! I think they just keep wondering why I’m making such a fuss.
Do you come from a musical family?
Not at all.
What is your karaoke song?
I very rarely do karaoke, but ‘Torn’ by Natalie Imbruglia. I’ve been thinking I might do this on the show.
Who is your singing inspiration/ favourite artists?
I admire anyone that can get up and sing and make it look so effortless. However if there is one person I’d make sure I saw in concert it would be Barbara Streisand.
How does taking part in this competition compare to your normal job?
The only comparison to the job I do normally is that there is an audience and I’m performing in front of camera. However how I’m feeling now considering my nerves, give me dialogue and a script any day!
What scares you most: the thought of singing live or the judges’ comments?
Singing live, but in front of the judges adds insult to injury.
Other than the vocal training have you been doing any of your own preparations?
Learning the words to all the songs is homework I’m used to from learning scripts. Other than that, I’m drinking tons of water and going through my breathing exercises when I remember them!
Would you have applied for The X Factor if you weren’t famous?
No, I don’t think so.
Are you in it to win it or is it the taking part that counts?
The thought of winning has not even crossed my mind. All I hope for is that I’m not voted off in the first show.
What other projects are you currently working on?
Currently working on Doctors, but more importantly I’m working on being a new wife and creating domestic bliss! |
