Summary

With the advent of the first live show it is obviously very difficult to make a concrete judgement as to who is likely to walk away smiling at the end of the series, and one can only speculate lightly on who will be leaving the series this Saturday. Early indications suggest a healthy contest for Daniel Debourg who has been pitched favourite to win The X Factor 2007 for over the past week. Strengths for Daniel appear to come from his image, personality and singing voice and if these do prove popular with the public, he could be in for a smooth ride in the competition. However, Daniel is not safe, as potentially the groups have a stronghold this year with two favoured a good chance to win the series: Futureproof and Hope, reports suggesting their resemblance to mainstream bands and therefore popular acceptance. Of the 14-24 categories, Leon Jackson has a good position amongst those to win the series too. Looking at the bottom end, Same Difference are most likely seen to be leaving the series first with suggestions that such a duet arrangement might not be popularly accepted, but they could easily prove people wrong if they deliver on the night. Rhydian Roberts is not far off from being likely to face the chop, possibly fueled by the recent reports of negative exposure of the finalist by earlier shows. But once again, Rhydian can prove all wrong and come up with a good performance that gets him through to the next stage. From the point of view of winning judge, all the odds are based on the chances of success and survival of the respective judges' finalists. Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell have the healthiest odds thanks to the strength of Leon Jackson and the five piece groups respectively. Louis Walsh is not that far behind thanks to the overall lead of Daniel Debourg. Sharon Osbourne languishes at this early stage simply because none of her acts are favoured overall to win the series - but this could all change.
It is important to point out at this stage of the competition that there is all to play for. The first live show will showcase the finalists talent and ability to deliver a live performance for the first time. The big questions are will the favourites live up to their expected performances? And will the outsiders show they've got more to give than the odds would give them credit for at this time?
