Series 1 of The X Factor was really an experiment and opened up the age groups, it consisted of the three categories in which there were only three acts in each of the categories. The winner was Steve Brookstein who was in Simon's category of the 25 and over.

Winners Random take the title in 2005.

Udo Mechels walks off as winner in 2005.


Russia

A star is born in the form of Vladimir Sapovskiy.

Series 2 of The X Factor took the show further and taking it more seriously with 75,000 people taking part in what was the biggest series yet! Now each category had four acts and the eventual winner was Shayne Ward who won in Louis' category of the 16-24.

What category did the judges get?
It's decision time as the judges find out what category (16-24, 25 and Over and Groups) they will be training for the live shows.
 

Boot Camp
So from 75,000 contestants, the judges pick just 200 to go through the Boot Camp stage. Find out what judges do as they work individually in their categories once again shortlisting their chosen ones onto the next stage! What is 200 now becomes 21 with 7 in each category.
 

Judges' Homes
The final 21 acts are invited to the Judges' homes to give their final shot at what they can do! From here, the judges will pick just 4 of their final acts to go to the Live Shows! But who will make it to the end?

Series 3 of The X Factor was one of the biggest contests to date.  With a record audition intake of 100,000 and more places plus some twists to the show!  The eventual winner was Leona Lewis who won in Simon's category of the 16-24.  Leaving Sharon once again without a win!

Boot Camp
So from 100,000 contestants, the judges pick the lucky ones to go through the Boot Camp stage. Find out what judges do as they work individually in their categories once again shortlisting their chosen ones onto the next stage! This gets reduced further to just 24 acts.
 

Judges' Homes
The final 24 acts are invited to the Judges' homes to give their final shot at what they can do! From here, the judges will pick just 4 of their final acts to go to the Live Shows! But who will make it to the end?

This was a one off celebrity version of The X Factor and included an interesting combination. All this was done for charity and really a bit of fun. There was no audition or boot camp stage, but just live shows shown every night for a week. Lucy Benjamin won this special show.
