15/5/2002 - coming after five

10:58am BST

Material is prepared, material is recorded and material is ready to go!  But there's 5 days to go!  Indeed, we're talking about Ronan's brand new album, 'Destination'!  It's out on 20th May 2002 and it is sure to turn heads around and pay attention to!  Look here!  The UK version's got 14 tracks including the latest number 1 single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' plus the favourite number 2 smash, 'Lovin' Each Day'.  We're getting geared for it - so should you!  As the day of release approaches, you should be getting excited... and for those who bought the single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' (which is out now!) the new material should give you bags of excitement!  If you want to, pre-order your copy today!  Visit Amazon.co.uk now!  Also, check out the Albums Discography for all the track listing details.  But it's not long now - in fact the sand timer's just started - as the sand disappears from the top - you know what to do!  Get it!

15/5/2002 - what's the story, ronan?

10:46am BST

According to Ronan, he claims that the rock group, Oasis (pictured) are "just a manufactured band".  Ronan spoke to mrib giving his reasons why: "You can be sure they auditioned every musician in the band except the brothers. I mean, all the band left a while back didn't they, so they must have held auditions. But at the end of the day, who cares? They're still selling records!"

Despite that, Ronan respects the rock band and hopes their forthcoming album, 'Heathen Chemistry' is a success: "By no means have they same power they used to, but they are still a great rock band.  If they had Definitely Maybe in them, then they have more to offer. If they can make an album as good as that, they can do it again. That was great music. Hindu Times is a great record too."

14/5/2002 - more music less acting

11:36am BST

According to some report recently, it was said that Ronan had signed up to an American Acting Agency so he can find a suitable role to go acting.  However, Ronan denied such claims.  Speaking to mrib, Ronan said that it was the first time he heard such claims and admitted that acting was not his interest at the moment: "I just want to concentrate on the music.  Those that do it all, are less focused about what they do."

Ronan also admitted that a few years ago, he wanted to do absolutely everything that was offered: "I was hosting TV shows like the Eurovision Song Contest and three MTV Awards.  I was totally blind to what the hell I was doing. I just wanted to do everything. But now I understand I want to do music. Last year, at the end of the last album, I realised that music is all I want to do."

Well, music has been the right decision!  Ronan's got a number 1 this week for his single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' (Hey! It's out now!).  And Ronan's new album, 'Destination' is out 20th May 2002 (6 days to go) - don't miss it!!

13/5/2002 - out in a week!

7:09pm BST

Ronan's done it!  'If Tomorrow Never Comes' is officially the UK's number 1!  We would like to congratulate Ronan on his successful single!!  And it's thanks to all of you - the fans!  We campaigned over the last week to promote his single, and you listened to us!  You bought the single, you made it number 1!  That now means that Ronan gets his third number 1 single along with 'When You Say Nothing At All' and 'Life Is A Rollercoaster'.  Ronan had stiff competition in the charts this week with rivals H & Claire with their single, 'DJ' ending up at number 3 and knocking off Holly Valance's (pictured right) 'Kiss Kiss' to number 2 after spending only one week at the top spot!  And if you can't believe that, look at the top 10 chart below!!!

1 Ronan Keating -
If Tomorrow Never Comes

2 Holly Valance - Kiss Kiss

3 H & Claire - DJ

4 S Club Juniors - One Step Closer

5 Nigel & Marvin - Follow Da Leader

6 Sugababes - Freak Like Me

7 N'Sync and Nelly - Girlfriend

8 Nickelback - How You Remind Me

9 Tweet - Oops (Oh My)

10 Russell Watson & Faye Tozer - Someone Like You

Speaking to Pepsi Chart's Dr. Fox (pictured above left), Ronan gave his reaction to the brand new single: "I can't believe it to be honest with you.  Like nine years of doing this with six number 1s with Boyzone.  This is my third number 1 single and after nine years of still being here, I just feel lucky for that more than anything else.  I can't believe it!".

On talking about the song, Ronan said: "It was originally a Garth Brooks' [pictured above right] hit about eight, nine, ten years ago and he had a hit with it in the US and Ireland funnily enough but nowhere else.  It's great.  Not a lot of people know the song."

We, again would like to congratulate Ronan for the number 1 single!  And finally, thank you, thank you and thank you to you the fans for buying his single!  You did Ronan a very BIG favour indeed!  (And those who didn't buy the single...we are really, really disappointed in you, folks - you let the star down!)  We suggest you buy the single, it's absolutely fantastic!  You can buy it online as well, visit Amazon.co.uk).  Check out the updated Singles Discography for full details!

Finally!  Don't stop there!  You mustn't forget this!  Ronan's brand new album, 'Destination' is out on 20th May 2002 and there's just 8 days to go!  Check out the details in the Albums Discography.  We'll going to campaign this week to ensure you get the album and make it Ronan's second number 1 album!  So, you better watch out!

12/5/2002 - pop's no longer pop

4:02pm BST

Ronan feels that pop music is not as good as it used to be and feels that Westlife (pictured) are a very good example of how pop should be.

Speaking about the much-criticised genre: "Pop isn't as good as it used to be. Back in the 90's, Take That were a fantastic pop band. And when you look at the 80's pop movement like Duran Duran, they had great pop songs. I think the whole Pop Idol stuff has diluted what we do. A lot of people say my stuff is not great but I think they're good pop songs."

Ronan recently showed his criticism to Hear'say, he has lots of complements to Westlife: "I like Westlife. I like what they're doing, I think they make great pop records. They're talented. Bryan's a great songwriter. Bop Bop Baby's a great pop song."

Despite Westlife only being in pop for three years, Ronan had some advice to the members when they are ready to call quits: "The best thing for any band is to end on top, it's sad to see any band fade away, but it's up to them. As long as they keep bringing out good records, there'll always be people to buy those records."

Getting down to it!  Hey!  What happens in 8 days time?  Well you don't need the answer!  But anyway, it is the launch of Ronan's new album, 'Destination' out on the 20th May 2002!  And it is a recommended album indeed, 14 tunes and this is Ronan's best album yet!  Check out the Albums Discography for all the details - and that's it!  So get ready okay??!!

11/5/2002 - ronan blasts hear'say!

5:42pm BST

He criticised the shows Pop Idol and Popstars, and now Ronan has gone one step further - he's slammed Hear'say (pictured)!  The reason being that their lack of good tunes is making the Popstars band head to the dumps.  Recently, he claimed how bad the band really were: "The songs aren't good enough! They could have kept doing it if the songs had been good enough, but they aren't and that's why people are going, 'Okay, forget about them. Someone will replace them."

Ronan also had concerns about Will Young lack of promotion compared to his Pop Idol rival, Gareth Gates: "The good thing is that both he and Gareth are very talented," Ronan said. "The guys can sing. Thank God. It's scary to see it and who they're surrounded by. I worry about that. I think it was terrible that Will had a No. 1 record and then it was just handed over to Gareth. It's all marketing."

Get ready!  With 9 days from now, Ronan will be out with his brand new album, 'Destination' out on 20th May 2002 - make sure you grab a copy on the release!  And hey!  Have you got Ronan's new single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes'?  It's out now and you should be buying it - because Ronan must be number 1, okay?  Get the message and buy it!  You can also buy online at Amazon.co.uk - so act now!  If you need a reminder, then click here now!  For all album and single details, check the albums and singles discographies!

10:39am BST

According to midweek sales figures, Ronan's new single 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' looks set to become his third UK number 1!  With some statistics, it looks like it will knock off Holly Valance's 'Kiss Kiss' off the UK number 1 spot!  Ronan is competing against the former Steps members, H & Claire's first single 'DJ' - but it looks like they will get the UK number 3 position.

8/5/2002 - simply pants!

10:43am BST

Ronan recently called the very much hyped album, 'Is This It' by The Strokes as a load of "pants"!  Speaking to Worldpop, Ronan described how the music press credits such bands like The Strokes and The Hives, he said: "It's the NME and Q who give those bands respect, and boybands don't belong in those magazines. That's fine. I know that. The magazines that respect us don't show respect for them. We've all got our own sections of the industry that bands like Westlife dominate and bands like The Strokes dominate. But when you buy The Strokes' album, it's not as good as they say. I love The Hives and The Vines, I like that kind of stuff, but when I bought The Strokes album, I was very disappointed. The first single is brilliant - a great pop song - but the rest of the album is pants!"

Ronan doesn't care how the music industry look at him but rather cares on the music and his fans!   He said: "I don't strive for it anymore.  We fought too much in Boyzone to get that and we couldn't. We should have just shut up and learnt our lesson and knew that we were a boyband. Now I just want to make music and hope people like it. And that's the greatest respect anyone can give - if people like your music. The industry goes in and out of liking you, so who cares about that."

Don't forget!  Ronan's new single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' is out now!  Plus the new album 'Destination' is out 20th May 2002.

6/5/2002 - you should be listening!

6/5/2002 - fan-fear!

4:39pm BST

Ronan fears that his new album, 'Destination' due out 20th May 2002 may not do well.  The reason is that he is returning with a new album in a while plus he may not have the Boyzone fans behind him this time round!  Talking to the Irish press, Ronan discussed about the expectations of the new album without Boyzone around the corner: "I'm really nervous about the new album. I mean it has to live up to 4.5 million copies that the last album sold and this time it's not on the back of Boyzone's success."

Ronan described how proud he is with the new album: "This is the next step for me, it's the best piece of work I've ever done. I can stand proud with these songs. It's the first record I've made that feels like a body of work. I want people to see me for who I really am. I don't think they have seen that yet. Not in nine years. All you can give them is your music, turn out there and be yourself. I'm not trying to be a new person. This is not the new Ronan. It's another chapter."

Ronan finally admitted that Boyzone had helped him on his way to success: "I would really hate to be starting out all over again I really would and I won't deny anything about Boyzone, it made me who I am and gave me the opportunity to do this."

Come on fans!  Don't let Ronan down!  Firstly, buy his new single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' - it's out now!  And don't forget that his new album, 'Destination' is out 20th May 2002.  Make sure you make a note!  We'll campaign 'til the release - so support Ronan today!

4/5/2002 - yes! we're ready to dance!

6:33pm BST

It looks like Ronan could be in luck if he takes on this offer!  The Chemical Brothers revealed to MTV that they want to record their next record with an artist.  Speaking to MTV, Ed Simon of the Chemical Brothers said: "We would have to find an artist who we're really excited about so there would be a point to it. I'm very intrigued to hear this Fatboy Slim / Blur thing. I can't imagine what it will sound like."

In the news report described yesterday (see next news story below), Ronan was prepared to get involved if the time was right: "If the right record came along, I'd do it. Moby and Fatboy Slim, I think they're great. The Chemical Brothers are fantastic."  If Ronan were to take this offer, this would be the first tune of Dance that he has ever been involved in.  Well, at Ronan Keating World, all we can say is the choice is his!

3/5/2002 - ready to dance?

10:53am BST

Ronan recently revealed that he would like to work with dance music stars such as Fatboy Slim and Moby.  Ronan liked the dance single 'Lazy' by X-Press featuring David Byrne.  He also said that if he had a chance to move to dance that he would: "If the right record came along, I'd do it. Moby and Fatboy Slim, I think they're great. The Chemical Brothers are fantastic. I really like the Robbie and Faithless song. I like Faithless too. I like the one they did with Dido [pictured]. So I would, somewhere down the road."

However, in Ronan's next single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' to be released on 6th May 2002 (Monday, see more info below!), features a remix of the song by Groove Brothers, Ronan was not keen on the remix: "Aah, Jesus it's dreadful.  I don't mind it when people remix the tracks. It's not something that I really get involved in. My A&R guy set the whole thing up and sent it out to various people."

Nevertheless, even though Ronan isn't keen on remixes of his tunes, he could see the point that it was necessary: "I've had dance versions made of Loving Each Day, Rollercoaster, they've all been mixed.  The Way You Make Me Feel, the lot of them. White label stuff, you know. Sometimes countries ask for a dance mix because they don't like playing ballads on the radio. It's odd the way it works sometimes. But, no, I don't like that stuff, it's too cheesy."

A constant reminder! - Listening?  Ronan's new single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' is out 6th May 2002 (yes! 3 days to go!), so make a note down of the date 'cos it's the big release in a while!  Make sure you get it on the day - and for those who can't wait (and we can't too!), you can pre-order at Amazon.co.uk today!

...and of course, don't forget Ronan's new album, 'Destination' is out 20th May 2002 - so that's the date to note down as well!  Got it?  Well, get it!

1/5/2002 - talking dangerous pop

11:02am BST

Ronan recently spoke to Worldpop about manufactured pop and celebrity cult obsession is ruining pop music.  He spoke about concerns over multimedia marketing surrounding the world of pop: "I think the sort of pop coming out now is damaging to what we do. In turn it creates that whole celebrity world. The magazines and the TV shows lend themselves to that."

He also mentioned that pop nowadays is different to some extent.  In reference to his time with Boyzone and Pop Idol: "I can't exactly slag it all off because I was in a manufactured band, I did the whole OK and Hello magazine thing... but people don't want to be good at what they do anymore they just want to be famous for doing it."  Ronan mentioned his concern over the future of recent Pop Idol finalists Will Young and Gareth Gates (pictured): "Nobody can compete with the Pop Idol lot. When they sell 1.3 million records in a week, that's dangerous.  It's a real phenomenon but sadly there's only one way for them to go and that's the wrong way."

Nevertheless, Ronan sees potential for future pop: "The chances of putting five people in the room together and asking them to work together well aren't great. But if they're picked because they can work together, and the management is right then it can work. Westlife and Boyzone worked, the only difference was that we didn't have the cameras on us so much."

Ronan finally discussed that managing Westlife was more than just managing, but advising: "I watched the Westlife lads and was there for them in the beginning, but one of the reasons I walked away was because there was no more I could do for them. They've learnt really well and they're good at what they do."

Just a reminder!  Don't forget that Ronan's new single, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes' is out on 6th May 2002 (next week).  It's not long now!  So get ready for the exciting release!!!
