| 1998 Automatic Kittens |
Without further ado, Andy
McCluskey of OMD set out to recreate his concept of a new girl band,
steering course away from the disappointment that was Honeyhead. His
second attempt gave rise to a local band going by the name of 'Automatic
Kittens'. The name as unusual as it sounded was adopted from the band's
clothing designer, Mary Lamb. Lamb called her own range of clothing,
'Automatic Kitten'. There were a number of hiccups in getting the
'Automatic Kittens' on track but they were more promising than Honeyhead.
McCluskey who was based in Liverpool, UK, felt that an advantage was being
gained by taking on local members: ""We recruited girls from here in
Liverpool. They're local, so they don't have to travel and live in a city
where they don't feel comfortable. They have a definitive and real
geographical location. That gave them a certain sensibility that other
girl bands don't have."
