Rescheduled tour dates |
|
 |
29/9/2003, 5:30pm BST
The
forthcoming Atomic Kitten live tour has now been rescheduled
from its original planned dates covering November-December
2003 to the new time of February-March 2004.
The postponement of all dates has come about as a result of
the work the Kittens are involved in with recording their
new forthcoming album, the demands to fit in new gig dates
in the UK and Europe and the need for promotional work
around the world. The new tour dates are found on the
Tour & Appearances page and are
given again below for convenience. A band spokesperson
has described of the situation regarding the reschedule and
of advice and info to fans who've bought tickets: "The girls
are hugely disappointed to have to move the dates until
after Christmas and are sorry for the inconvenience they
know this move will cause some people. Of course all
tickets will be transferable and, if necessary, fully
refundable. The girls have vowed to make the new shows
extra special and would like to thank their fans for their
continued amazing support. As a sign of Liz, Jenny and
Natasha's appreciation to all the fans who have already
bought tickets for the original November/December dates they
will give those fans a brand new exclusive unreleased
downloadable medley of tracks from the new album and a
limited edition photograph. Fans need to keep their
original ticket and contact the Kittens' website at
www.atomickitten.com with their ticket serial number and
their email details." Fans who've bought tickets can
visit the
Official Atomic Kitten website to find out details of
how to get hold of the goodies that include the exclusive
medley and limited edition photograph, and to get further info on the
move of tour dates. Also, new dates are expected to be
added to those already on the tour. You should consult
the
Official Atomic Kitten website and relevant venues

A new trio emerge from same roots as Atomic Kitten |
|
 |
28/9/2003, 6:35pm BST
Former band member of 1980's group, Orchestral Manoeuvres In
The Dark, Andy McCluskey who worked to create Atomic Kitten
back at the end of the last decade is now working with a new
band called Genie Queen (pictured). The new band
shares a few similarities to Atomic Kitten in that they too
are a girl band trio and all of the members are from
Liverpool, just like the Kittens. Genie Queen are made
up of the three members: Abbey Clancy, Anna Ord and
Lauren Blake. The trio have been busy getting together
their own music, working with songwriters in Stockholm,
Sweden. Genie Queen have spoken of how they respect
Atomic Kitten since the two bands have more-or-less the same
origins but emphasised that their music would be different
to that of the Kittens. Lauren said: "We have a lot of
respect for them [Atomic Kitten] and what they have done,
but musically we are very different." Anna said:
"They've done really well, but our songs will be totally
different." Abbey spoke of how Genie Queen came to be
from finding potential fellow band members at the second
hand clothes shop she worked at: "I always wanted to
sing and I asked Andy [McCluskey] to help me, but he
basically told me to go and get myself a band together.
When people came in the shop who I liked the look of, I
asked them if they could sing. I had a feeling about
Lauren and Anna. They said they could sing, but to be
honest, I didn't know for sure. I lied and told Andy
I'd heard them over the phone!" Andy McCluskey spoke
of how Genie Queen was simply a band he couldn't miss: "I
get approached by a lot of people. Abbey came to me at
a time when I had finished working with the Kittens, and
wasn't really sure what to do next. I told her I
didn't work with solo artists - I'm not Simon Cowell, and
she should go and get a band together. To be honest, I
thought that would get rid of her, but she has amazing
determination, and came back with Lauren and Anna. I
thought I would be a pretty stupid man if I ignored an
opportunity like this one." Currently, Genie Queen are
signed up to McCluskey's own label, White Noise.

Nell joins Kittens in drink milk message |
|
 |
19/9/2003, 3:30pm BST
Atomic
Kitten have been involved in a campaign to promote the
drinking of milk and its healthy advantages as described in
an earlier news story. The campaign backed by the UK
government agency, the Milk Development Council and milk
manufacturers has seen the Kittens promoting milk together
with Big Brother 2003 winner, Cameron Stout and model and
I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! contestant, Nell
McAndrew is also joining the campaign. Adverts
featuring Nell and also Atomic Kitten see them posing with
'milk moustaches' and will be posted at bus stops, on milk
cartons and in magazines. Lil spoke of the the
importance of drinking milk: "It's really important that
kids grow up healthy and start making the right choices
about what to put into their bodies from an early age.
Girls in particular need to watch their calcium intake to
ensure that they develop strong, healthy bones. You
won't be able to follow our dance moves if you don't."
Nell also spoke of the advantages of milk health-wise:
"Looking after my body is really important to me, but that
means looking at the whole package: What you eat and drink,
as well as exercising, which is why milk is a fantastic
product. It provides so many of the vitamins and
minerals we need in one drink. It's ideal for keeping
you fit and strong. By getting eating habits right
from an early age, kids can form patterns which will help
them lead healthy and active lives, and milk is a great
place to start on the road to healthy living." The
milk campaign is being funded by the Scottish Dairy
Marketing Campaign, a consortium of Scottish Dairies.
The chairman, Sandy Wilkie said: "More and more women of
Nell's age are being diagnosed with diseases such as
osteoporosis that can be prevented by a regular dose of
calcium in girls' formative years. This is why its
really important that people start drinking milk from an
early age." Similar campaigns have been run in the USA
fronted by stars like Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of 'Buffy
- The Vampire Slayer'. |
