Kittens beat off Destiny's Child for top spot in UK singles chart!

Destiny's Child29/7/2001, 8:00pm BST
'Eternal Flame' proved the biggest and best single from Atomic Kitten this week when it stormed past the competition to become the UK Number 1 single.  This is the second no. 1 from the Kittens.  'Whole Again', the previous single, also debuted at no.1 and stayed on top for four weeks.  'Eternal Flame' sold around 141,000 copies in the first week alone - more than any number sold by 'Whole Again' in any single week!  The Kittens also beat off competition from the massive Destiny's Child (pictured above) whose 'Bootylicious' came out second best.  Looking at the UK singles chart...

1. Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame
2. Destiny's Child - Bootylicious
3. Robbie Williams - Eternity/The Road To Mandalay
4. O-Town - All Or Nothing

...the Kittens did brilliantly!  Tash said of the No.1 success: "I'm absolutely ecstatic we've done it again.  It proves a lot of hard work can make your dreams come real and thank you to everyone for their brilliant support."  Lil said: "It's just been amazing knowing you're number one.  Following Whole Again was going to be tough plus beating Destiny's Child to number one is so fantastic when we aspire to be as big as them some day."  Jen said: "This is one of the best moments of my life although 'Whole Again' was number one for ages this is our first number one in the new line-up.  Thanks to all our fans for all your wicked support, you're amazing."  Incidentally, 'Eternal Flame' will be appearing on the soundtrack of a new movie called 'The Parole Officer'.  Starring Steve Coogan (known for his distinct 'Alan Partridge' impression), this comedy film will also have clips featured in a re-make of the 'Eternal Flame' video coming soon.  Congratulations to the Kittens for their second number 1 success!

Kittens take to the big screen

16/7/2001, 8:00pm BST
Atomic Kitten are set to show their talents on the cinema screen when they appear on a forthcoming new comedy movie, 'Mike Bassett: England Manager'.  The film stars Ricky Tomlinson, best known for his role in the highly popular BBC Television comedy, 'The Royle Family'.  Tomlinson plays manager of the England football squad.  The Kittens play their part in the film as themselves in celebrating the victory of the England team in achieving a place in the World Cup Final.  However, we'll only be seeing Lil and Jen as Tash will not be appearing in the film as a result of illness.  The film will feature a new recording from the Kittens to compliment the movie.  'Mike Bassett: England Manager' is set to be released in the autumn.  We'll keep you posted!

     Kittens on Charles

Prince Charles with the Kittens9/7/2001, 6:00pm BST
Atomic Kitten got all friendly with the Prince Of Wales at this year's 95.8FM Capital FM 'Party In The Park' for The Prince's trust at Hyde Park, London, UK.  The Kittens got jigging away with Prince Charles and got himself into a bit of a laugh when Lil handed the Prince an 'I LOVE AK' T-shirt which she suggested to the Prince: "...thought you would like this. You can wear it to bed and it will help keep you warm. I think you will look good in it."  The Prince was humorous with it all!  (Picture source: Ananova).

     Partying success

9/7/2001, 6:00pm BST
The Kittens showed their talent at this year's 95.8FM Capital FM 'Party In The Park' for The Prince's Trust at Hyde Park, London, UK.  The Kittens came on stage dressed in white, performing first their forthcoming new single, 'Eternal Flame' due out for release in the UK on the 23rd July 2001.  This was highly popular with the crowd who cheered and sang to the song.  Next and definitely not worth missing was the Kittens' top no.1 hit single, 'Whole Again' which again got the crowd hyperactive.  Brilliantly performed, Atomic Kitten demonstrated their excellent music to a crowd of 100,000 at an event that was full of party spirit and happy mood.  The rain kept away for most of the day.  After their act on stage, Atomic Kitten spoke to Capital FM.  Asked how it was for them, they replied: "Absolutely terrifying...I'm more of a kitten right now then an atomic right now...Absolutely amazing. The crowd were bonkers and we were a bit, sort like dubious being out there. There's so many people out there but I'm pleased there was a good reaction. The crowd went mental. Thanks guys."  Asked about how they felt playing to the 100,000 spectators watching live, the Kittens replied: "It was just out of this world. You, just as far as you could see, there was people...like tiny little dots at the back and it was just the most amazing feeling, the atmosphere was just... really good energy... and everyone was singing along and you could see everyone's hands clapping in the air...it was just amazing."  Atomic Kitten were absolutely amazing on stage and they performed brilliantly!  Thanks for a great time!
