Heidi reflects |
|
 |
24/4/2002, 7:00am
BST
Sugababes (pictured) member, Heidi Range
(pictured most right), who was once part
of a band formation involving Lil and
Kerry in pre-Atomic Kitten days, feels she made the
right move to leave the group early in
1999. Heidi was more keen on pursuing
a music career in R 'n' B and felt that
she needed to leave Atomic Kitten to do
so. She left in early 1999, long
before the Kittens even had their first
chart single ('Right Now', the single
came out at the end of November 1999 -
see the Singles Discography). On
reflecting back, Heidi said: "I was 15
when I joined Atomic Kitten and, at
first, I was just pleased to be in a
band. But I knew musically that
wasn't the direction I wanted to go in.
I'm more into R 'n' B and hip-hop than
pop. I also wanted to have more of
a say in the songs I was singing.
I'm pleased that Atomic Kitten have been
such a success. I know how hard
the girls have worked. I still
speak to Kerry Katona to see how she is
getting on and Liz is the only one left
from when I was in the group."
Heidi joined Sugababes back towards the
end of summer last year. She
replaced former Sugababes member,
Siobhan Donaghy and joins the other
Sugababes members, Keisha Buchanan
(pictured left) and Mutya Buena
(pictured centre). They currently
have a new single out called 'Freak Like
Me'.
And on
the subject of a new single, don't
forget that Atomic Kitten will be out
with their own brand new single, 'It's
OK' out on the 20th May 2002!!!

Kittens go rallying and win!!! |
|
 |
23/4/2002, 6:30am
BST
A huge congratulations go to Atomic
Kitten and their own brilliant rally
team, Team Atomic Kitten!!! They
won the Independents Cup! The
team's drivers were Gareth Howells and
Colin Turkington. Howells came
fourth overall at the rally meeting in
Oulton Park, UK on Sunday (21st April)
while Turkington was forced out of the
race early because of gearbox trouble.
The Kittens were at Oulton Park to cheer
the team on and were accompanied by
loads of supporters. Lil described
of the day: "To see our whole team
working so hard and those brilliant
looking cars made us incredibly proud to
be involved. We intend to go to as
many races as we possibly can and will
definitely be at Le Mans for the big
race." The massive event in Le
Mans, Monte Carlo, the Le Mans 24-hour,
will take place in July. It was
back in February that Atomic Kitten
signed a deal with British motorcar
company, MG. The team's car is an
MG ZS and the special union between the
Kittens and MG sees the prospect of
2,500 special edition MG cars to be
produced later on in the year.
Speaking recently to Planet Pop, Lil
said of the involvement with motor
racing: "...It's dead exciting,
basically we've got a sponsorship deal
with MG cars and we now have our own
racing team called Team Atomic Kitten.
It's our own private team, we're
sponsored by MG but they don't own it -
we do. It's great because all the
drivers are really cute. We're
like 'Phwoargh! Ooh! Hello,
love, what's your name?'" |

Atomic Kitten will be performing with
two huge music stars at the Party At The
Palace event, a special concert
celebrating the Queen's Jubilee at
Buckingham Palace, London, UK on the 3rd
June 2002. The stars are the great
singer/songwriters, Phil Collins
(pictured right) and Bryan Adams
(pictured left). For the Kittens,
this will be a brilliant appearance.
Jen, especially is excited as she is a
massive Phil Collins fan. Speaking
to The Sun, Jen said: "I can't believe
it. I won't be able to stand up without
going all gooey. I'm a huge fan of
Phil. We don't know what song we're
going to do but it will be one of his."
The Kittens will probably perform the
massive hit, '(Everything I Do) I Do It
For You' from the movie 'Robin Hood -
Prince Of Thieves' with the voice behind
that song, Bryan Adams. Other big
name stars to take to the stage at the
Party At The Palace include: Will Young,
Blue, The Corrs, Rod Stewart, Mis-Teeq,
Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney and
Elton John, but to name a few. |

At a premiere... |
|
 |

13/4/2002, 10:30am
BST
Tash and Jen made their appearance at
the premiere of the brand new movie,
'Bend It Like Beckham', a film with a
football theme, on Thursday (11th April)
night, at the Odeon in Leicester Square,
London, UK. 'Bend It Like Beckham'
stars Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley,
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anupam Kher,
Shaznay Lewis and Juliet Stevenson to
name but a few of the cast and is
directed by Gurinder Chadha. Also
making their appearance at the
star-studded premiere were Parminder
Nagra, Shaznay Lewis, Keira Knightley
and Juliet Stevenson along with Gurinder
Chadha. Model, Gabrielle Richens
was also another guest. Keira
Knightley spoke of the new film: "We
hope the film will encourage more girls
to come into the game, because it is a
fantastic game that everyone can play."
Footballer, David Beckham after which
the new movie is named was wished well
by many at the premiere following his
devestating injury in the match between
Manchester United and Deportivo La
Coruna at Old Trafford, UK on Wednesday
(10th April) night.

Smashing finish to Kitten tour!!! |
|
 |
 9/4/2002,
7:00am BST
Yesterday night saw Atomic Kitten play
their final tour gig and what a
brilliant show it was!!! Coming
live from the Hammersmith Apollo in
London, UK, the Kittens looked and
performed as cool as ever. As with
all the other shows on the tour, the
supporting act, Kiara Hunter (pictured)
from Vancouver in Canada got the crowd
warmed up with her set of fresh tracks
accompanied by a pair of hyperactive
dancers who showed off their impressive
dance routines. After an upbeat
startup set from Kiara, it was back to
the interval before Atomic Kitten
stormed on stage after the playback of
bits of a pretty appropriate song,
'Pussycat' from Welsh superstar, Tom
Jones (only a recording - he wasn't
actually there!) The Kittens got
the crowd buzzing to their debut smash
hit, 'Right Now' and from that explosive
performance came the whole string of
Kitten favourites from their latest
'Right Now' album. Amongst the
highlights were the party tune, 'Get
Real', smoochy numbers like 'Cradle' and
of course the fantastic performances of
'You Are' and 'Eternal Flame'!!!
All along, the lighting kept the crowd
going: the famous Kitten logo twirling
in blue against the backdrop, strobes
and the Kittens' very own band, The Fat
Cats keeping the music on track!!!
But, together with the well-known Kitten
songs came their perfect cover versions
of 'Get Down On It' and 'Kids In
America' which thrilled the audience!!!
The props were pretty neat: it was onto
the striped beanbags for 'Tomorrow And
Tonight' and onto the barstools for the
forthcoming new single, 'It's OK' which
was so upbeat, catchy, full of party fun
and just absolutely brilliant!!!
(By the way, it's out on the 13th May
2002!!!) At the end of the
show, 'Bye Now' was the Kitten's
supposedly final song to end the gig and
the tour. They waved goodbye but
only a few minutes later backstage could
we 'hear' Tash tell the other Kittens
whether the crowd wanted more!!!
The crowd screamed and yep, they had to
perform the song which they 'forgot'.
'Whole Again' it was and the Kittens got
the crowd to get stuck into singing
verses and the chorus from the No.1 hit
single!!! It went down really well
and to definitely round things off in
style, 'Dancing In The Street' (from the
'Eternal Flame' single) kept the party
going until it was finally and sadly the
end of the show. The audience got
showered in a rain of confetti and with
that, Atomic Kitten had proven they were
most definitely, 101% a massive hit with
the fans!!! The 'Right Now Tour
2002' which started way back in February
this year ended in style and being the
first official Kitten tour, it was
definitely their best yet!!!
